About ACHPER Victorian Branch Inc.
The Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation Inc. (ACHPER) is the peak professional, association representing professionals working in the fields of health, physical education, human movement studies, sport, recreation, dance and community fitness. It is a member based, not for profit organisation with a highly credible national profile.
The Mission of the Council is to promote active and healthy living for all Australians and particularly to support its members in the study and of its areas of interest.
ACHPER’s close links to the education systems and schools provide an ideal context in which to conduct consultancies, focus groups and information seminars. ACHPER works collaboratively with kindred bodies to assist in advocacy, promotion and communications about active and healthy living. Teachers look to ACHPER locally and nationally for support in terms of new curriculum resources, new ideas to promote active and healthy living and professional training and development.
ACHPER is governed by honorary Boards at National and State levels, comprising professionals from the education, tertiary and community sectors. It has a strong network of state and territory branches that serve members through a range of professional activities.
ACHPER is committed to programs and projects that are both commercial and educational. Funds generated from such activities are used for further projects and member services.
ACHPER's Objectives
- Encourage and campaign for a high standard of professional preparation in the areas of focus (health education, physical education, recreation, sport, dance, community fitness and movement sciences);
- Further the areas of focus by such means as conferences, seminars, discussion groups, training courses, granting awards and promoting and sponsoring special interest groups;
- Further research and disseminate knowledge concerning the areas of focus;
- Formulate policies on issues of the areas of focus and related issues concerning the council;
- Foster the development of positive attitudes and practices related to physical activity, health and well-being in the individual, the community and professional and social organisations;
- Co-operate with kindred organisations;
- Undertake other such courses of action as may be consistent with these objectives.
