The Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER), Victorian Branch is a professional association representing teachers and other professionals working in the fields of health, physical education and sport and recreation areas of study in Victoria. It is a member based, not-for-profit organisation with significant profile.
ACHPER has a proud tradition that goes back to the 1950's when the organisation had its beginnings in the Australian Physical Education Association. In the 1970's, ACHPER Victorian Branch emerged as a force in the education sector advocating for greater government commitment to physical education, physical activity and school sport. The Branch continues to build a strong reputation as a key provider of professional learning programs for HPE teachers in government, Catholic and independent schools.
ACHPER has approximately 3,000 members nationwide and has a branch in each state and territory. ACHPER Victorian Branch represents over half of the total membership with approximately 1890 financial members.
